The Spelling Rule
The Schwa is the most common vowel sound in English and it doesn't even have its own letter. The Schwa makes a lazy 'uh' sound or sometimes an 'ih' sound. The Schwa can be found in vowels in unstressed syllables. Any vowel can be a schwa including the letter Y. Often vowels will reduce to Schwas as the speaker tries talk more quickly and fluently.
