The Spelling Rule

Every syllable needs a vowel (ENSAV) is the number one spelling rule in syllabification, The process of breaking or dividing a larger word into syllables. A syllable is a small unit of pronunciation containing a vowel and possibly surrounding consonants. This rule can be used to break a larger word into smaller parts when reading or spelling. Breaking a word into syllables is not an exact science completed by listening to the word and dividing it or by looking for patterns in vowels and consonants.
